Happy Easter!
We had a very simple Easter, but it was just the way Easter should be. Caden did get a little Easter basket (more so we could say that he got one than anything else), but my very favorite was the swim towel I made him to match his new swimsuit. I wish I could say that I am "crafty", but most of my attempts are failures, so I was proud that this one turned out. I'm so ready for summer! Good thing we are still having 70-80 degree weather out here. I had to turn on the A/C today!!

By the way, it's not that Caden doesn't smile. He just doesn't smile for the camera. As soon as we pull it out, this is the face he puts on. He will stop mid-laugh and stare/glare at it. This is why almost all of his smiling pictures are taken from the side with him not looking at the camera.

Maple Syrup Festival
Last Saturday, after getting all moved into our new apartment, we decided to go on an adventure. We packed our gear and headed north to the tip of Lake Michigan, where they have a Maple Syrup Festival. I'm not sure if "Festival" is the right word, but they make maple syrup there, and will teach you exactly how to do it yourself. It was pretty interesting, actually. We learned all about the necessary tree diameters and day/night temperature variations in order for the sap to flow, and then the process necessary to make syrup. It takes 40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup. And it takes way more than that to make maple sugar (which we decided is super yummy and something we wish was cheaper). It had been a warm day in Lafayette, but apparently N. Indiana missed the memo, because it was FREEZING up there. Jess somehow thought to bring a coat and beanie, but I had barely thought to change out of my sandals. Caden didn't seem to mind too much, but he refused to keep his hands inside, and I hadn't brought a coat or mittens for him (or shoes, or a hat, or anything, for that matter). Despite the cold, we had a fun adventure, and are now on the lookout for any little "festivals" that are close enough to go to. (Thanks Amelangs for the guide book!)

Visit from Grandma
We spent one afternoon on Purdue campus, which was actually mine and Caden's first time doing so (Jess only spends a couple of hours a week on campus since his lab is off-campus). Although we've had a number of warm days, that day was not one of them, so we had to bundle up to wander around campus.
Grandma's visit was topped off by us starting to move apartments. We have had some messy issues with the plumbing, and the last incident was the last straw. So, we moved out of the basement and into a near-by 2nd story apartment which will not flood if neighbors decide to flush rags down the toilet. Jess and I have decided that we will not miss apartment life once we are done with it.Thanks Grandma Rose for coming to visit and for all your help! Come back soon!!

4 months
Wow! Our baby is starting to become a little boy! His growth has slowed down just a bit, which is fine by us. Four month stats are as follows:16 lbs 10 oz (85%)
25 inches long (60%)
head circumference 43 in (75%)
Caden loves to grab at anything close by and bring it to his mouth to chew on. Life doesn't revolve around eating any longer, in fact, he usually gets too distracted after only a couple of minutes and starts talking to mom instead. One of his favorite things to play with is burp cloths, which he loves to fling in his arms and suck on them. He's very social and loves to smile and talk to just about everyone. He started smiling and laughing at his pediatrician today when the doctor started rotating his legs to check his hips. He is still a fabulous sleeper, sleeping through the night and taking 2-3 good naps a day. We just love him more and more everyday!!
We are in the process of moving apartments due to some lovely sewage issues with our basement apartment. We're not thrilled about moving, but at least it is close and shouldn't be too much of a headache. Hopefully Caden cooperates with the process!

Laughs
So it is probably officially the worst cinematography ever, but here is the best video we have gotten of Caden laughing. Jess wasn't home so the camera is sitting on the bed while I am making Caden tickle his own feet. He got a kick out of that (no pun intended), and like always, he managed to get a bad case of the hiccups from laughing too hard. Poor, cute boy!

Walks and Daddy/Son bonding
We have been enjoying some balmy 45 degree weather in Indiana, so walks have become our new favorite past time. Caden still has to bundle up, but he loves sitting in his carrier and watching everything as we walk through the neighborhood. He kicks his little legs and flails his arms in excitement as he coos at everything and everyone. I'm always grateful when Jess can go on the walks, because Caden gets heavy VERY fast these days.

When we can't go outside, Caden enjoys daddy's shoulders inside. He's grabbing Jess's ear in the picture, and will often grab Jess's hair and try to put it in his mouth

Not only does Caden take walks with daddy, he now will eat with him too!! Caden successfully took a bottle today, and we are beyond thrilled, especially because practically no tears were shed and he downed that bottle in no time flat! It does seem a little counter intuitive when Jess is feeding Caden in one room and I am pumping in another, but now I feel like I can leave the boys to themselves without stressing about Caden's needs. Hooray!
